1964

First DENSO associate arrives in USA to look for business opportunities.

1965

First DENSO product sold in North America (a starter-generator for a chainsaw).

1966

Opened sales offices in Chicago and Los Angeles.

1967

DENSO Corporation liaison office opened in Southfield, Mich.

1971

DENSO Sales California, Inc. (DSCA) established.

1972

DENSO Sales Canada, Inc. (DSCN) established.

1975

DENSO Sales, Inc. (now merged into DENSO International America, Inc.) in Southfield, Mich.

1977

DENSO Sales California begins production of remanufactured parts and sets up diesel service network.

1979

DENSO Distribution Center built in Battle Creek, Mich.

1984

DENSO Sales California, Inc. (DSCA) new plant built in Long Beach, Calif.

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. (DMMI)

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan earns Michigan Chamber of Commerce Environmental Quality Award.

1993

U.S. Environmental Production Agency recognizes DENSO as a world leader in protecting the ozone layer from harmful automotive air conditioning coolants by presenting the company with its Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award.

State-of-the-art Climatic Wind Tunnel opens at DENSO International America Technical Center to support North American customers.

1994

DENSO International America, Inc., DENSO Sales, Inc. and DENSO Technical Center, USA, Inc. merge into one company, DENSO International America, Inc. (DIAM) in Southfield, Mich.; DENSO Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (DNMX) in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and ASMO Greenville of North Carolina, Inc. (GNC) in Greenville, NC, established.

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee earns Kentucky/Tennessee Wastewater Federation Pretreatment Award.

1996

DENSO Mexico, S.A. de C.V. production begins in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon.

DENSO Sales California starts assembly of MovinCool portable air conditioning units.

American Industrial Manufacturing Services named Southern California Plant of the Year by California Water Environment Association.

1997

DENSO receives 1996 Supplier Corporation of the Year Award from General Motors

DENSO Sales Canada, Inc. (DSCN) breaks ground for new manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ont.

DENSO Wireless Services America, Inc. established in Vista Calif.

1998

DENSO Wireless Systems America, Inc. starts production of cellular phones in Vista, Calif.

DENSO receives 1997 GM Supplier of the Year award.

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, DENSO Manufacturing Michigan and ASMO North Carolina achieve ISO 14000 certification, a voluntary worldwide standard of excellence for environmental management.

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee produces 10 millionth instrument cluster.

1999

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. designated as a Michigan Clean Corporate Citizen in a program recognizing environmental stewardship.

DENSO named one of the "World's 100 Best-Managed Companies" by Industry Week magazine.

DENSO opens manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ontario.

The first J.D. Power and Associates Navigation Usage and Satisfaction Study ranked DENSO's factory-installed navigation system for vehicles highest in customer satisfaction.

2000

DENSO's top-ranked car navigation system is the first to offer complete map coverage for the United States

DENSO International America earns ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

DENSO International America, Inc. has been honored by Deere & Company of Moline, Ill., for achieving "Partner" status in John Deere's 1999 Achieving Excellence Awards Program.

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee received the Kentucky/Tennessee Water Environment Association Pretreatment Excellence Award.

ASMO Manufacturing received Supplier Award for Production, Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America (MMMA)

2001

DENSO International America establishes the DENSO North America Foundation with future assets to total approximately $15 million at full endowment in 2010. DENSO was the first Japan-based automotive supplier in North America to establish a charitable foundation.

Ford Motor Company presents DENSO Corporation with its 2000 World Excellence Silver Award for outstanding quality and delivery performance of engine management systems for Jaguar.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America names Associated Fuel Pump Systems Corporation winner of its 2000 Excellence Award for Quality.

Deere & Company presents its highest supplier award, the Partner Classification Award, to DENSO International America.

Greening of Detroit names DENSO International America winner of its annual Gold Trowel Award in recognition of efforts to improve the environment and support of Greening of Detroit's Moses Field Project.

DENSO International America closes Battle Creek Distribution Center due to changing customer requirements.

Purodenso's company name changes to TBDN Tennessee Company and its ownership from 100 percent DENSO to 49 percent DENSO/51 percent Toyoda Boshoku.

DENSO Sales California relocates Long Beach manufacturing operations to Frontera, Mexico.

DENSO establishes GAC Corporation de Mexico S.A. de C.V., a joint venture with Japan-based GAC Corporation, to produce hoses and tubes for car air conditioners and spot coolers.

J.D. Power and Associates ranked the DENSO navigation system equipped on the Lexus GS Sedan highest in overall customer satisfaction in its 2001 Navigation System Usage and Satisfaction Study.

DENSO Corporation tops environmental rating survey of Innovest Strategic Value Advisors with a AAA score.

Friends of the Rouge presents its highest award -- Best Friends of the Rouge -- to DENSO International America.

 

2002

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presents DENSO Corporation with the 2002 EPA Climate Protection Award for developing and marketing the world's first mass-produced CO2 refrigerant, heat-pump water heater for households.

J.D. Power and Associates presents DENSO Corporation President Hiromu Okabe with its prestigious Chairman's Award at the Morgan-Stanley-J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Excellence Recognition event, held at the New York Stock Exchange. DENSO is the first automotive supplier to ever receive the award.

The Southfield Community Foundation gives DENSO International America, Inc. its highest honor, the Commitment to Community Award in recognition of DENSO's efforts to improve the community and support of the Rouge River Rescue.

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. announces it will divide its automotive operations in Maryville and Athens, creating two separate companies, effective April 1, 2003. The Athens facility will be named DENSO Manufacturing Athens Tennessee, Inc.

DENSO Mexico, of Apodaca, begins construction on an additional plant in Guadalupe City with a planned 2003 production start. The new plant will manufacture hydraulic pressure products.

DENSO North American group companies win a total of 25 awards from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. in recognition for product quality and service. In addition, DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. receives Excellent level Special Recognition for contributions to the smooth launch of the new model Camry.

DENSO International America, Inc. receives Ford Motor Company's Recognition of Achievement World Excellence Award, recognizing environmental leadership and honoring the company as one of its top suppliers in the world for 2001 performance.

2003

The DENSO navigation system equipped on the Lexus GS Series earns a top ranking in overall customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates 2002 Navigation System Usage and Satisfaction StudySM.

Kyosan Denki America, Inc, of Winchester, Ky., and DENSO International America announce that the two companies will establish a North American manufacturing company in Mt. Sterling, Ky., to produce automotive components for North American car manufacturers.

DENSO announces plans to build a manufacturing facility in Osceola, Ark., to produce car air conditioners and heavy equipment radiators for its North American customers.

The State of Tennessee honors DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, in Maryville, and DENSO Manufacturing Athens Tennessee for achieving Performer status, the top level of the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership (TP3).

2004

DENSO makes its Pre-Collision System -- a world's first -- available in North America on the Lexus LS 430.

DENSO wins a PACE Award for its very high-pressure, solenoid fuel-injection system (or 1800-Bar Common Rail System), which reduces pollutants from vehicle exhaust gas while increasing engine power.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awards a 2004 Climate Protection Award to the Electrical Inverter Air Conditioning Team, comprised of DENSO Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Toyota Industries Corporation. The team developed an electrical inverter air conditioning system that provides cooling for the 2003 Toyota Prius HEV when the engine is not running -- when stopped at a traffic light, for example -- to save fuel and emissions. This marks the third time the EPA honors DENSO.

Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) and DENSO establish TD Automotive Compressor Georgia to produce car air-conditioning compressors.

 

2005

DENSO introduces to the European market four new components for gasoline electric hybrid vehicles – hybrid control computer, battery-monitoring unit, DC-DC converter, and electric compressor for air conditioning systems.

With Toyota, DENSO develops the world’s first 1,800-bar diesel common rail system with piezo injectors, designed to contribute to cleaner diesel engine emissions while providing consumers higher performance.

DENSO announces a new long-term environmental policy, “DENSO EcoVision 2015,” which focuses on developing environmentally friendly products and expanding efforts to reduce CO2 emissions.

DENSO announces plans to expand its Maryville,-Tenn. manufacturing plant with a $185 million investment, resulting in approximately 500 new jobs by 2010. The expanded facility will add about 220,000 square feet to the company’s existing 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing space.
