New Air Conditioning System - DENSO's new air conditioning system provides more comfortably conditioned air to passengers seated not only in front seats, but also in rear seats. DENSO developed four new components for this system: * World's first matrix infrared ray (IR) sensor that detects the surface temperature distribution inside the vehicle cabin; * Heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) unit for the front air conditioner; * Cooling unit for the rear air conditioner, and a --more-- * * Oxygen concentration conditioner, which prevents a decrease in cabin oxygen concentration. Features of the new air conditioning system include: * Temperatures that can be separately controlled for each passenger seat; * Temperatures and airflow quantity for passengers seated in rear seats that can be automatically controlled by using the matrix IR sensor to detect passenger surface temperature changes; * More efficient and quieter system operations due to the new HVAC unit that utilizes a highly efficient evaporator, heater and motor, and a newly developed film door with a unique structure. The new film door also allows separate control of airflow quantities to driver and passenger sides, and an approximate 20 percent size reduction in volume of the HVAC unit compared to a conventional unit; * Quieter rear-seat environment resulting from a newly developed duct structure for intake ports in the cooling unit, and * Prevention of a decrease in cabin oxygen concentration due to the oxygen concentration conditioner that supplies air with an increased concentration of oxygen. DENSO Convenience DENSO is developing and commercializing products from the customer point of view to provide heightened convenience for drivers such as: New Navigation System - Newly launched in the U.S. this past year on the Lexus LS 460, DENSO's newest voice-activated navigation system guides drivers to their destinations whether they have an address or often only with a phone number. Traffic speed, road closure, construction and accident data are processed and beamed by satellite to the XM NavTraffic service. Drivers can get a voice-delivered traffic update on a specific highway or route. If there is traffic congestion, drivers can, with the help of the navigation system, plan an alternate route in advance. --more-- The system can calculate up to three different routes and understands more than 100 spoken English commands. The in-dash LCD screen can easily be switched to display either French or Spanish. DENSO's higher-resolution screen and sharper graphics make reading easier. With Bluetooth(r) technology, the system can interact with compatible cell phones. In addition, the navigation screen works in conjunction with the LS's backup camera, which allows the driver to view objects in the rear of the vehicle's path when the car is put in reverse. Instrument Cluster with TFT Display - DENSO's new instrument cluster with TFT display provides a variety of information for easy driver recognition as well as improved environmental features. For the TFT display, DENSO developed a new backlight unit, which uses a high-luminance, light-emitting diode. This backlight unit does not contain mercury, an environmentally hazardous substance. In addition, it reduces power consumption by approximately 20 percent, contributing to less fuel consumed. Card Key for Smart Entry and Start System - DENSO's new card key - the world's thinnest - is only 3.35 millimeters thick, fitting easily into a wallet or card case. Its construction features the world's highest level of strength against bending and the world's first totally waterproof circuit part. DENSO achieved these features by insert-molding the circuit board with resin.
