DENSO OAKLAND SCHOOLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS

WATERFORD, MI -- May 7, 2010 -- This year, the DENSO Oakland Schools Education Foundation received a record number of applications -- 105 -- and will award 22 scholarships to deserving high school seniors attending the four Oakland Schools Technical Campuses on Tuesday, May 11 at 4 PM at Oakland Schools, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford.

The scholarship program began in 1991 with a $300,000 endowment by DENSO and has evolved into the current program, a partnership with the Oakland Schools Education Foundation, where the top student receives a $1,500 scholarship and the remaining students receive $1,000 each. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's personal goals, academic achievement in technical fields, internships, work experience, and financial need. DENSO will also award 23 renewal scholarships this year. The scholarships may be applied to any accredited post-secondary institution for tuition, books, and other course-related materials and fees. To date, DENSO has awarded a total of 239 scholarships to deserving students through the Oakland Schools Education Foundation.

The following students will be recognized at the event on Tuesday afternoon and the top winner will be announced at the event. The students, their hometowns and the post-secondary institution they plan to attend are:

-- Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast (Pontiac): Carlisha Elam of Pontiac (Michigan State University), Jeffrey Ring of Lake Orion (Kettering University), Kate Tansley of Oakland Township (University of Michigan), Ane Taylor of Pontiac (Oakland University), and Ying Yi Liu of Pontiac (University of Michigan).

-- Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest (Clarkston): Tiffany Settlemoir of Clarkston (Oakland Community College) and Matthew Sweetman of Holly (Western Michigan University or Ferris State).

-- Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southeast (Royal Oak): Brianna Anglemier of Clawson (University of Detroit-Mercy), Dalyn Cirac of Madison Heights (Western Michigan University), Ashlee Davis of Birmingham (Central Michigan University), Alexei Kauffmann of Ferndale (undecided), Annelise McAuliffe of Royal Oak (Culinary Institute of America), Jerniqua Mitchell of Southfield (Michigan State University), Davis Peterson of Troy (Kendall School of Art & Design), and Kayla Simmons of Southfield (Grand Valley State University).

-- Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest (Wixom): Tammy Affolder of Waterford (Oakland Community College), Erica Bono of Ortonville (Oakland University), Jenna Cole of Commerce (Oakland Community College), Connor Morrison of Highland (Northwestern Ohio), Patrick Tallman of Commerce (Oakland University), Nicholas Thomas of South Lyon) (Lawrence Technological University), and Denzell Walls of Pontiac (Kettering University).

The award program will feature remarks from Dr. Tresa Zumsteg, Deputy Superintendent for Instructional Services, Oakland Schools; Dennis Dawson, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, DENSO International America, Inc.; and a keynote speech from Doug Smith, Deputy County Executive, Economic Development and Community Affairs. Closing remarks will be made by Dr. Marlana Krolicki, Learning Services Consultant, Oakland Schools.
