Let’s Learn Together: Why is use of the one-shot (Johnson & Johnson/Jansen) vaccine on pause?
On Tuesday, April 13 the CDC and FDA issued a statement regarding the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. They are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution after the report of 6 cases (out of 6.8 million doses) of a rare kind of blood clot that appears to affect women of reproductive age. While the investigation is underway, most providers, including DENSO Family Health Centers, are stopping use of the J&J vaccine.
Over 189 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through April 12, 2021 with reports of some mild side effects and extremely rare cases of severe reactions. The J&J vaccine is a different type of vaccine (viral vector) than the two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are an mRNA variety. Please get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.
