DMMI – Monday, April 13 Update: DMMI Response to COVID-19 (coronavirus)

Reporting Risk, Not Illness
This week, please note that our regular update on “new cases at DMMI” will end. We hope everyone is healthy! But, given that less than 10% of our associate population has come to campus since the end of March, we can no longer report on cases. Instead, we will report risk.

Why? Let’s explain…

  • Our previous practice has been to tell you that there are no new cases. We rely on the local Health Department and associates to share this information, but the Health Department only notifies us if there is an exposure risk and associates only share if they are directed to do so by a healthcare professional.
  • The Calhoun County Public Health Department does a “contact investigation” for each positive COVID-19 person so they can inform individuals and organizations about their exposure risk.
  • Per State of Michigan guidelines, if an associate gets sick, DENSO won’t be informed unless they have very recently been on campus. Moving into our fourth week of production stoppage, and considering increased screening and social distancing, overall risk is minimal.
  • We continue to be committed to informing all associates about any risk reported to us by the Health Department.

By dramatically reducing the number of people on campus, DENSO has contributed to reducing risk. Please do your part by practicing social distancing and excellent hand and cough hygiene. Let’s protect our loved ones and our community from further spread.

A Message from DENSO North America CEO Ken Ito on Michigan Governor’s Executive Order Extension
I hope you were able to relax and refresh yourselves over the holiday weekend. It is especially important during challenging times like this pandemic, to take care of yourselves and to spend time (safely) with family and friends.

Last week, Michigan’s Governor Whitmer announced an extension of the Stay Home/Stay Safe order through April 30. DENSO’s Michigan facilities will abide by this order, which means all associates who are not allowed to come to actual site should continue to work from home or stay at home until at least April 30.

Again, this is to ensure that those associates who have to be at a DENSO plant or campus to do their jobs, are able to work in a safer environment, with few people around.

I deeply appreciate your commitment and contributions and your understanding of how important it is to cooperate and collaborate in this “new normal” way of working.

Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Thank you.
Ken Ito
