DMMI Associate Testing Triggers Deep Cleaning, Coworker Isolation
On April 19, we were notified that a DENSO Manufacturing Michigan (DMMI) associate working in respirator manufacturing has been referred for COVID-19 testing by their doctor. The associate was last on the DMMI campus on Friday, April 17. Please respect confidentiality, even if you believe you know who this individual is.
While we will not know the results for several days, we have taken significant precautions, exceeding our DENSO North American policy for cleaning, disinfection and coworker isolation.
Non-Exempt Associate Pay Change
Government leaders in Michigan and Mexico have verbally noted they plan to extend shutdown orders into May. Such orders will have a significant impact on the US auto industry. While we won’t know the full details of these orders until they are officially released in writing, we have decided to revise pay treatment for the week beginning April 19. We are returning to the previous pay treatment of 32 hours per week. This will allow most associates to keep full pay when combined with one PTO day each week. See below for details.
We continue to adapt to the changes caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic and the impact to our business and the auto industry. Again, our commitment is to support you and ensure that DENSO as a company can endure the extended slowdown caused by COVID-19.
Non-Exempt Associate Pay Revised to 80%
*DENSO associates with paid time off (PTO) can choose to supplement this partial payment with PTO, otherwise the time will be recorded as unpaid time off without penalty.
** Premium details: Premium will be paid one week after normal paychecks. We apologize, but we need to manually process this premium due to payroll software limitations. This premium is approximately 20% or more for most associates.
There is no change to exempt associate pay for the week of April 19.
Again, the situation is changing day by day. We will continue to update you openly and honestly as we navigate the challenges ahead.
DMAT Associate Tests Positive for COVID-19
On April 19, we were notified that a DENSO Manufacturing Athens (DMAT) associate working in Low Pressure Pump (Plant 701) has tested positive for COVID-19. The associate was last on the DMAT campus on Friday, April 10, during second shift.
We consulted with our medical professionals and ensured proper notifications have taken place. Because the associate was not working for six days prior to onset of symptoms, CDC guidelines do not require additional associates to self-isolate, but we continue to ask everyone to self-monitor for fever or other symptoms.
Even though the associate has not worked in DMAT for nine days, DMAT will close Plant 701 to clean and disinfect on Sunday, April 19 in accordance with our North American policy. They will resume production with second shift on Monday, April 20.
Please respect confidentiality, even if you believe you know who this individual is. The person is being treated; join us in wishing for their quick recovery.
New Phishing Campaigns related to the COVID-19 Pandemic
As expected, there have been a number of Phishing campaigns preying on the fears and confusion surrounding the COVID-19 virus. Most recently, those have taken the form of false links to sites offering Personal Protection Items (PPI). There have also been emails with false links to claim stimulus money. It is likely that there are sites that have been established that attempt to get users to access them for updates on local infection statistics and updates on “Stay at Home” orders. There will be more.
Out of necessity, we have enabled as many Associates as possible to work from home for the foreseeable future. This adds a great deal of additional risk. The security measures that are automatically applied when on site at a DENSO facility do not necessarily extend to the home environment. Extreme caution and alertness is required from all of us.
Be Vigilant and be safe.
