Returning to Work Safely: Safety Playbook & Phased Approach
DENSO will return to work in phases, based on safety protocols and customer schedules. In our April 29 update, we noted that we were working with our customers and state and local governments on plans to restart mass production. We are finalizing those plans. Today, we want to share more about the careful, thorough and methodical approach we’re taking to be sure to provide a safe workplace.
COVID-19 Risk Minimization Playbook
We have established new DENSO North America safety protocols detailed in the COVID-19 Risk Minimization Playbook. These comprehensive guidelines detail baseline safety strategies required at all DENSO facilities.
At DMMI, we are verifying that all of these measures are in place, and beginning to stress test them for the larger numbers of associates who will return to campus in the coming weeks. Each associate will receive a Returning to Work Safely mailer at their home address within the next week. This information and photos will give you a preview of what has changed on campus, and how you can prepare to return to work.
Phased Approach
Our return to work is divided into four phases. A general overview of each Phase is below. Our leaders are currently detailing which activities fall under each Phase. More details will be shared in our daily updates and through your direct supervisor in the days and weeks to come.
Phase 0: Associates will be required to work on-site (work from company (WFC)) only to meet customer needs which cannot be met another way. This means many associates will continue to work from home. This will allow us to test new safety protocols and maximize social distancing.
Phase 1: We will carefully determine the number of associates needed to support the business operations and customer requirements. In this phase, associates who cannot reach 100% value-added work from home (WFH), will be asked to work from company (WFC) for the amount of time to reach 100% value add. This may mean a combination of working from home (WFH) and working from company (WFC). If the nature of your position and workload allows, please continue to work from home (WFH). Safety protocols remain in place.
Phase 2: This phase will be launched at a minimum of two weeks after Phase 1 if there are no new government restrictions. In this phase, we will begin to gradually increase the number of associates who can reach 100% value WFH, but would like to work from company (WFC). For the most part, if the nature of your position allows, please continue to work from home. Again, we will maintain all safety protocols.
Phase 3 (final phase): We will launch this phase when all government restrictions have been lifted. This will not occur until at least 14 days after Phase 2 is put in place. We don’t expect we will reach this phase until the second half of June or even July. If safety protocols continue to be required, we will follow the government rules. We also plan to put in place a regional WFH policy that allows more flexibility.
This is just a general overview of our phased approach. We will continue to keep you updated and provide additional details on when and how we will safely return to work together. Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenges.
