DMMI – Your Weekly Message from Kevin: April 24, 2020

Good afternoon DMMI Family,

I hope this note finds all of you and yours well!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to connect with over 500 of you at our 2nd DMMI Virtual Town Hall.  I hope you found it informative, as we addressed many of your questions.

Today, I want to express my thoughts about one really important question you asked.

IS IT SAFE TO RETURN TO WORK AT DMMI?

Associates wanted to know whether it was safe to work at DMMI under the circumstances related to COVID-19.  Yes, it is safe to work at DMMI.  Frankly, if it were unsafe, we would not be operating in any capacity.  As much as we respect and value our customers, I will not compromise your well-being.

To date, we have researched, planned and implemented exhaustive measures related to separation and hygiene. Our work spaces and common areas, and our process to enter our buildings have changed dramatically.

In all cases, we have complied with CDC guidelines, and in some cases, we’ve far exceeded them.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES

Some of the measures are:

  • Extensive routine cleaning—both by making time and supplies available to associates and increasing labor dedicated to cleaning common areas
  • Total Entrance Screening—we are using thermal imaging to detect anyone with a temperature greater than 100 degrees; these individuals will not be allowed to enter any DMMI building.
  • Separation Barriers—Easy-to-clean partitions provide co-worker separation.
  • Social Distancing—Strict meeting room and common space protocols.
  • Personal Protective Equipment—Masks and face shields are readily available, and are required when social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Exposure Risk Management—Strict notification, contact tracing, and disinfecting protocols exist in the event that a person is being tested for COVID-19.

Of course this list does not include everything that is being done or will be done.

PARTNERING TO PROTECT YOU

We also have a great network of community and DENSO organizations working together to keep our associates safe.

  • DENSO North America Safety, Health and Environmental has worked with DMMI closely to establish and share strong requirements across all DENSO facilities.
  • I have personally met with the Calhoun County Health Director to ensure that information sharing is effective and efficient. We are working together closely to ensure we do not put any DMMI associate at risk of spreading COVID-19 to their teammates.
  • We will continue to consult with Dr. Neal Gogan, Director of DENSO Family Health Center, to gain new ideas and confirm we seize every best practice.

As always, staying true to DENSO Spirit, we need all of your ideas too.

No matter what we do to keep DMMI safe from COVID-19, as Dr. Gogan continues to remind us, there is no substitute for our own actions. Personal accountability is essential, like practicing hand and cough hygiene, social distancing, monitoring your own health and communicating with your health care provider as needed.  Let’s all commit to doing so!

MICHIGAN EXECUTIVE STAY HOME ORDER EXTENDED TO MAY 15

Today, Michigan Governor Whitmer announced an extension of the Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order through May 15 with some modifications.  We are working with our North American Legal team to understand how to comply fully.  When we have a clearer picture of the change points, we will share any impacts to our business and our people.

One thing I understand about the order is that we can now work in our yards, play a round of golf and begin to enjoy the warmer weather.  Please do so safely.

Have a blessed weekend!

Sincerely,

Kevin
