Ensuring associate safety – respiratory etiquette

In addition to wearing face coverings and washing our hands, practicing respiratory etiquette limits the transmission of respiratory germs by droplet or airborne routes.

What is respiratory etiquette?

  • Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
  • If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
  • Putting your used tissue in a waste basket.
  • Washing your hands with soap and water after coughing or sneezing (if you can’t wash, use hand sanitizer)

The key part of this is to completely cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Why?

  • A good sneeze can propel droplets at a speed of up to 100 miles per hour and send 100,000 germs into the air!
  • A cough can expel up to 3,000 droplets that travel up to 50 miles per hour!

We are committed to providing a successful and safe return to work for all associates. Leadership and TMS team members across NA have guidelines to ensure associates are adhering to COVID-19 processes, countermeasures and safety requirements.

We are all responsible for ensuring one another’s safety – if you witness someone not following safety protocols, please discuss with them or contact your TMS representative. Any associate refusing to follow behaviors outlined in the NA Risk Minimization Playbook will face disciplinary actions, which range from warnings to termination, please see your local Associate Handbook for more details.
