The Charitable Union, Battle Creek’s support agency for families in need, provides a complete back-to-school outfit (including socks and undergarments!) to hundreds of children in the region each year. For the third year, DENSO volunteers supported the event through the Work-Time Volunteer Program.
In this program, each associate can volunteer eight hours of paid time each year through company-sponsored events. From sorting donations and stuffing envelopes to assembling food bags, DENSO associates are empowered to give back to the community.
Twenty associates volunteered 70 hours during two shifts of service to the Charitable Union on August 12. A morning group set up clothing at a local church, making “shopping” easy for families. In the afternoon, volunteers lent a hand to families that came to select an outfit for their child.
In just a matter of hours, 300 children benefitted; about half of the 600 students supported by a variety of Charitable Union Back-to-School events held throughout the community.
Thank you to our associate volunteers for helping make our community a better place to live and work!
