Location: Detroit, MI
DENSO International America, Inc. and DENSO Corp. are coming together to showcase our technology in three live demos, an exhibition and presence at a Talent Networking Event and ITS Youth Education Showcase at the 2014 ITS World Congress beginning Sunday, Sept. 7 through Thursday, Sept. 11 at Cobo Center.
Exhibit
To support DENSO’s vision to have an accident-free and eco-friendly society, DENSO’s exhibit theme is “Technology to keep people safe wherever they drive – Everyday Confidence, Extraordinary Safety.” DENSO will exhibit systems that are achieved through a combination of sensing and Human Machine Interface (HMI) technologies.
Demo 1
Advanced HMI Management with Connectivity
Belle Isle
We’ll demonstrate how two vehicles seamlessly communicate using both DSRC and 4G LTE communications. We’ll show you six scenarios where the vehicle will talk to other vehicles, traffic signals and even pedestrian smart phones to communicate potential life-saving information back to the driver. We’ll also show you how DENSO’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) cockpit system ”digests” this information to safely display information to the driver at the right place and at the right time.
Demo 2
Belle Isle
Here, we’ll demonstrate how automated driving might be improved using the same device that enables “talking” car, or V2V, communications. Using DENSO’s DSRC, the lead vehicle communicates its position, speed and acceleration to the follow vehicle. We’ll go through four scenarios to show how V2V communications “sees” beyond the line-of-sight to provide added safety and convenience benefits that can’t be accomplished by using special sensors.
Demo 3
Highway Truck Platooning for Safety and Efficiency
I-75
We’ve partnered with outside forces to show you how 2 tractor-trailers – equipped with Peloton’s truck platooning systems, DENSO’s DSRC radios and Meritor WABCO’s safety system – can travel in tandem on I-75 and just 36-feet apart. We’ll demonstrate how Peloton’s Driver-Assistance Truck Platooning (DATP) systems integrate active safety systems, DENSO’s wireless communications and cloud-based monitoring to make trucks safer. This’ll also enable pairs of trucks to form aerodynamic platoons or road trains, which yield robust fuel, maintenance and management savings.
Youth Connections Showcase
DENSO is collaborating with Square One Education Network to develop and coordinate interactive experiences for students at ITS World Congress as part of the Youth Connections Showcase. Doug Patton, executive vice president of Engineering, is speaking on a panel about the career opportunities within the intelligent transportation arena.
Talent Networking Event
DENSO is teaming up with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), Square One Education Network and ITS America to provide young professionals, graduate, and undergraduate students with a night of networking.
