DENSO Sends Students Back-to-School with $7,500 in Local Student Scholarships

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. (DMMI), a leading supplier of automotive systems and components and the largest employer in Battle Creek, has awarded scholarships to five outstanding students through partnerships with the Battle Creek Community Foundation (BCCF) and the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center (BCAMSC).

The DMMI Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 to assist children of DENSO associates with the rising cost of higher education. A selection committee from the Battle Creek Community Foundation chooses winners based on student activities and work experience.

The 2016 scholarship recipients are Abigail Cobb of Western Michigan University, Abigail Mullis of Saint Phillip Catholic Central High School and Dionna Eggleston of Kellogg Community College. Mullis will study at Central Michigan University in the fall and Eggleston recently received her Associate’s degree from KCC. She begins studies at Western Michigan University this fall.

Supporting their children extends that philosophy even farther into our community.”

DMMI created the BCAMSC scholarship in 2011 to honor the 25th anniversary of the company. The BCAMSC scholarship promotes math and science education and excellence by recognizing outstanding graduates of the center with financial assistance for college expenses.

Anne-e Jones of Lakeview High School and Alicia Ziegler of Harper Creek High School were both recognized for their exceptional academic achievements with the DMMI BCAMSC Scholarship this year.  Ziegler will attend Michigan State University this fall and Jones will go to the University of Michigan.

“The education you’ve received at the Math and Science Center has given you an excellent start,” Brenda Dredge, DMMI Director of New Product Introduction, told students in a speech at the BCAMSC. “We are fortunate to have the Math and Science Center in our community, and we are proud to help you as you start your college studies and this next phase of your lives.”

This year, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of DMMI, the company added an additional BCCF scholarship and increased all five scholarship amounts from $1,250 to $1,500.
